A rare violin has fetched a record $16 million at a London auction. The proceeds will go toward tsunami disaster relief in Japan.

The Stradivarius violin is nearly 300 years old and has been dubbed "Lady Blunt." It was sold by the non-profit Nippon Foundation.

The foundation says the money will go toward relief projects in northern Japan, which was devastated by earthquake and tsunami in March.

The new owner has not been identified.
