2 teenagers in custody after Boyle Heights standoff

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES

The incident started with a fight between the teens and deputies in the lobby of Los Angeles County USC Medical Center.

At one point, a deputy shot a nonlethal bean bag at one of the suspects. Officials said the two suspects, a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old, fled the scene and headed to a nearby apartment complex.

They barricaded themselves inside and held 11-year-old twin girls and a 5-year-old boy against their will for several hours.

Police said that two suspects started throwing rocks and bottles at officers while they were barricaded inside.

The suspects eventually were taken into custody and the children were released to their parents.

No injuries were reported. The incident remained under investigation.
