In April, Candice Bushnell released a second prequel to her popular "Sex and the City" novels and the author recently said that she would like Selena Gomez to play a younger version of Kristin Davis' character Charlotte York.
"Casting is like kismet. I'm going to get into trouble for this, but I was looking at some pictures of Selena Gomez today and thinking 'She'd make a really good young Charlotte,'" Bushnell told the Daily Caller. "She's so pretty. I was like... gosh, wouldn't she be great? Am I right or wrong? I'm not good at this. If I say something like that, then the next thing I know, people are like, 'No!'"
Bushnell's new book, "Summer and the City" follows Bradshaw's character who has just moved from Connecticut to New York City and is dealing with her mother's death. In the book, Carrie meets a sarcastic Miranda and the sexually explorative Samantha, who is engaged to be married.
The previously released book, "The Carrie Diaries" took place during Bradshaw's senior year of high school.
Ever since Bushnell announced she was writing prequels to the books which were turned into the popular HBO series and two movies, media outlets have wondered who would be cast to play Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York if the books were made into movies.
It was rumored that Blake Lively might cast to play Carrie, but Bushnell did not comment on the reports.
The best-selling author told the Daily Caller that she "definitely" saw the prequels making their way to the "big or small screen." Though Bushnell wasn't involved in the "Sex and the City" movies, she said she loved them.
The first "Sex and the City" movie was released in 2008 and made $415 million worldwide, generating an approximate $350 million profit for the film studio. The second movie, which was set in Abu Dhabi and hit theaters in 2010, made about $95 domestically and $288 million worldwide. It had a production budget of about $100 million and was criticized by most top movie critics.
Kim Cattrall who played Samantha in the franchise recently said she wasn't sure if she would want to reprise her character in a third movie.
Gomez is known for her role as Alex Russo on the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place" and has starred in films like "Ramona and Beezus," which was released last year. She is also a singer and recently released her third studio album, "When The Sun Goes Down."
Gomez currently stars in "Monte Carlo," which hit theaters on July 1. The film tells of three young women who visit Paris and end up in Monte Carlo after one of the girls, played by Gomez, is mistaken for a British heiress. The movie also stars "Gossip Girl" actresses Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy as well as "Glee" actor Cory Monteith.
