12-year-old impaled in eye with firecracker in South LA

A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized with severe eye damage after an incident involving a firework in South Los Angeles on Monday, July 4, 2011.

A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized with severe eye damage after an incident involving a firework in South Los Angeles.

The incident happened Monday night on the 600 block of West 42nd Place.

Witnesses said the girl was outside her home when someone discharged a firework near her face, impaling her right eye.

Los Angeles police were investigating the incident.

The personal use of any firework is illegal in the city of Los Angeles.

The girl will reportedly lose sight in one eye.
