DNA tests show stranded NZ penguin is a boy

WELLINGTON, New Zealand

The penguin is at the Wellington Zoo recovering from medical procedures to flush sand and debris from his stomach. He now eats more than 4 pounds of salmon daily.

Emperor penguins typically live their entire lives in and around Antarctica, making Happy Feet's discovery 2,000 miles away so unusual.

Wildlife officials plan to release the penguin in the Southern Ocean once he recovers.
