Michael Lohan's misdemeanor domestic violence charge, filed after a March confrontation with his then-girlfriend, has been dropped.

"We announced we were unable to proceed because we could not locate the victim," Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office Spokesperson Sandi Gibbons told OnTheRedCarpet.com in a statement on Tuesday, July 5. "We will not refile the case."

In March, Michael Lohan, the 51-year-old father of actress Lindsay Lohan, was arrested after police received a call about a domestic dispute. They suspected he had held his girlfriend against her will and prevented her from calling 911.

Days later, Michael Lohan was charged with one misdemeanor count of corporal injury to a cohabitant and was accused of physically assaulting his girlfriend, who sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment from paramedics, authorities said.

A message posted on a Twitter page believed to be Michael Lohan's had said Kate Major, his then-girlfriend, was a "liar."

Michael Lohan has battled alcohol addiction and has over the past decade spent more than five non-consecutive years in prison after being charged with driving under the influence, attempted assault of his then-girlfriend, insider trading, and violating his parole. He appears on the latest season of the VH1 reality show "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew."
