OTRC: Nikki Blonsky of 'Hairspray' working in shoe store

Nikki Blonsky, who starred in the 2007 musical film "Hairspray," appears to have found an unconventional job - for actresses, that is.

The 22-year-old recently began working at the Steven Dann shoe boutique in her hometown of Great Neck, located in the Long Island area of New York, a company source told OnTheRedCarpet.com on Friday, July 8.

The actress' spokesperson had no immediate comment. The news comes months after Blonsky's last big acting project, the ABC Family series "Huge," was axed after one season.

E! News reported that Blonsky began working at the Steven Dann boutique in early June and quoted a source as saying that Dann himself called Blonsky "one of the best employees he's ever had."

"Customers come in and see her and ask, 'Oh my God! What are you doing here? Are you shopping?' And she laughs and says, 'No, I'm working!'" the source told E! News.

Blonsky Tweeted a message on July 5 that referenced Steven Dann's Twitter account, saying: "@STEVENDANN LOVE U MORE with all 4 foot 10 inches of me!!! C u 2morow xoxo."

A message on Steve Dann's page read that day: "@NikkiBlonsky LOVE YOU......."

Before she was cast in "Hairspray," which made more than 200 million in global box office sales and made her an international star, Blonsky worked at a Cold Stone Creamery ice cream store.

Blonsky played overweight teenager and dancer Tracy Turnblad in "Hairspray," which is a film adaptation of a musical that is based on a 1988 movie. The new film also features Zac Efron as Turnblad's love interest, Link, Michelle Pfeiffer, Amanda Bynes and Queen Latifah.

Blonsky played another overweight teenager, the rebellious Willamena Rader, in "Huge," which depicted a group of kids at a weight loss camp. The series also starred David Hasselhoff's daughter Kayley. It debuted in 2010 but was canceled after one season following lackluster ratings.

Blonsky still continues to act. In February, she filmed an episode of Nickelodeon series "Fresh Beat Band" and also appears on the Bravo reality show "Rocco's Dinner Party" on August 3.

"Lots of projects in the future!!" the actress Tweeted on May 23. "Look out Nikki Blonsky is always on the move!"

UPDATE: Nikki Blonsky Tweeted on July 11: "NO career changing! just experimented 4 a day working @ a friends boutique 2 see what it was like. NO singing or dancing happened, but it was fun trying something new for a day."
