OTRC: Prince William and Kate land in Los Angeles, begin U.S. trip

Prince William and his wife Kate, once known as Kate Middleton and now referred to formally as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, landed in Los Angeles on Friday, July 8, 2011 to continue their North American tour.

Kate, largely seen as a fashion icon, stepped off the plane wearing a lavender Peridot dress by Roksanda Illinic.

She and her husband were greeted by California Gov. Jerry Brown and his wife Anne, who handed the duchess a bouquet of red, white and blue flowers. William and Kate were also greeted by L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and British Ambassador Sir Nigel Sheinwald.

She and William had begun their North America trip in Canada on June 30 (see photos). It is their first overseas trip as a married couple. Kate had never been to the United States before.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended Variety magazine's Venture Capital and New Media Summit in Beverly Hills on Friday afternoon. They are expected to stay at the British Consul General residence in Hancock Park.

On Saturday, the royal couple plans to head to Santa Barbara for a charity polo match. William will play in the tournament and Kate is set to present a Tiffany & Co. trophy to the winning team. The two will later return to Los Angeles for a BAFTA event.

Sunday, July 10, is the final date of their U.S. visit. That day, the two plan to meet with kids at the Inner-City Arts in the impoverished area of Skid Row and visit veterans and military families at a job fair in Culver City.

William married his bride in London on April 29 in a ceremony watched by millions of people around the world, including more than 22 million viewers in the United States.
