Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and season 12 "Dancing With The Stars" champ, Hines Ward was arrested for DUI in DeKalb County, Georgia early on Saturday morning.

The footballer was booked into DeKalb County Jail around 3:45 a.m. ET and charged with misdemeanor DUI, WSB-TV, the Atlanta-based sister station of KABC Television, the parent company of OnTheRedCarpet.com confirmed. His bond is set at $1,000, according to the Jail's website.

On Friday, Ward said on Facebook that he had a bad habit of texting while driving and asked his fans to help remind him to stop.

"How many of you guys and gals text while driving? I am bad at doing that. It's very unsafe. Help remind me from time to time to stop texting, tweeting, or facebook while driving," Ward wrote, adding later, "I know it's dangerous. Trust me, I love my LIFE! But it's a bad habit I have. So let's help each other to knock my habit. And ladies putting on make up while driving is just as bad."

In April 2007, Ward was also charged in DeKalb County on traffic violations. According to court records, Ward was charged with speeding and reckless driving. After paying a $1,350 fine and pleading guilty to speeding, the reckless driving charges were dropped.

In May, he was detained by Los Angeles police officers after a misunderstanding. Officials said she had reported the car they were in to be stolen when she could not find the vehicle after a valet had parked it and had forgotten to call the police back to cancel her report after it was eventually located.

Ward was recently given an honorary Goodwill Ambassadorship to the Republic of Korea, also known as South Korea, from the Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The athlete said at the time that he hoped to inspire mixed-race children.

Ward was born in Seoul, South Korea to a Korean mother and African-American father in 1976. The 35-year-old football star was voted the MVP of Super Bowl XL, which the Steelers won in 2006.

On the finale of "Dancing With The Stars," Ward and pro-dance partner Kym Johnson beat runners-up Kirstie Alley, who placed second with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and Chelsea Kane and her partner Mark Ballas, who came in third.
