Boyle Heights teens start quarterly newspaper

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES

Their paper is called the Boyle Heights Beat. They want people to see that the area is about more than gang violence and housing projects.

The teens delivered some 22,000 copies of the bilingual newspaper last month.

The newspaper is funded by the private health foundation, The California Endowment. The Spanish-language daily La Opinión and USC's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism are helping with technical expertise.
