Miranda Kerr revealed in a recent interview that her 6-month-old son Flynn was named after an ex-boyfriend.
The 28-year-old Victoria Secret model and her husband, actor Orlando Bloom welcomed their son Flynn Christopher Blanchard Copeland Bloom on January 6, 2011. Kerr told Australia's The Daily Telegraph that he was partially named after her high school sweetheart, Christopher Middlebrook, who died in a car accident when he was a teenager.
"Chris and I had been dating for two years," Kerr told the Telegraph. "After he died, I wrote him a letter that said I hoped to name my first child after him in some way. I told Orlando, and he was the one who said he'd be happy to do that. Orlando's a good guy."
Kerr also told the paper that Flynn looks just like his Bloom, who gushed about the joys of fatherhood in March.
"He looks exactly like Orlando did when he was a baby," Kerr said. "His character is developing every day. He's content and, even though he's teething, you can see he's calm."
The supermodel returned to work a few months after giving birth and credited yoga, squats and healthy eating to her comeback. She also said that pregnancy gave her a new respect for her body.
"I have a different type of awareness and respect for my body now," Kerr said. "I'm not proud of being back in shape; what makes me proud is that he's healthy, because it means I'm being a good mother."
Kerr confirmed their son's birth in her blog on the KORA Organics website and posted a photo of her breastfeeding the newborn Flynn.
"He weighed 9lb 12 ounces (a very healthy and big baby boy)," the Victoria Secret model wrote. "I gave birth to him naturally - without drugs or painkillers and it was a long, arduous and difficult labor, but Orlando was with me the whole time supporting and guiding me through it. I could not have done it without him."
Bloom, who starred in three "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Lord of the Rings" movies and Kerr dated for at least three years before secretly getting married in July 2010. Kerr announced her pregnancy shortly after the wedding.
Bloom, a British actor, is set to reprise his "Lord of the Rings" role of Legolas in the movie "The Hobbit," director Peter Jackson confirmed on Facebook. Actors Elijah Wood, Iam McKellen, Cate Blanchett and Andy Serkis are all returning to star in the new film.
