Tony Perez found guilty of murdering Cori Desmond

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.

Tony Perez was found guilty by a San Bernardino jury in the murder trial of a Torrance woman.

Cori Desmond, a 28-year-old Torrance resident, was last seen alive on February 15 at the BAC Street Lounge in Redondo Beach.

Prosecutors said in 2009, Tony Perez, 35, tried to rape Desmond and killed her when she began to struggle.

Desmond was allegedly strangled, and her body was dumped in the San Bernardino Mountains. A motorist found Desmond's body on the west side of Highway 330, on the way to Running Springs.

Jurors received the case on Tuesday after listening to about a week of testimony.

Perez was charged with one count of murder. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
