In "The Smurfs," Vergara plays Odile, a successful cosmetics executive who is trying to develop a youth-enhancing potion.
"It was very different from Gloria, the character Odile. I mean, they're both strong ... strong personalities, but she would do things that Gloria would never do," Vergara said.
Vergara said while it was tempting to take an actual vacation while on a break from her "day job," she's learned it's best to strike while the iron is hot.
"You never know with the entertainment business. I think you have to take advantage of your 15 minutes of fame and be able to take advantage of all the opportunities," she said.
