Hiker slips on Yosemite's Half Dome, dies

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif.

Hayley LaFlamme, a 26-year-old woman from San Ramon, fell 600 feet on Sunday while climbing Half Dome with friends.

It appears she may have slipped on rocks that were wet from rain while descending the granite dome. She fell on the shoulder of the dome where the cables end that help navigate the final ascent.

The woman's death is the 14th already at the park this year - nearly triple the average in years past.

Last month, three people were swept to their deaths when they entered the Merced River above the 317-foot Vernal Fall.
