The first image of Henry Cavill as Superman in the new film reboot, "Man of Steel," has been released.
The movie is directed by Zack Snyder and is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2013. It stars Amy Adams as his alter ego Clark Kent's love interest and co-worker, Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as the villain General Zod, Warner Bros. Pictures said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com on Thursday, August 4.
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane portray Kent's adoptive human parents - Jonathan and Martha, while Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond play his birth father and mother, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van. Former "Law & Order: SVU" actor Christopher Meloni has been cast as Colonel Hardy, Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed.
Laurence Fishburne, known for films such as "The Matrix" and for his role on the show "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," plays Perry White, editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet newspaper.
Cavill, who is from Jersey, which is near England, is best known for his role as Charles Brandon on the R-rated Showtime series "The Tudors." He has also appeared in films such as "Stardust" in 2007 and "The Count of Monte Cristo" in 2002.
Christopher Nolan, director of the new "Batman" films, including the upcoming "Dark Knight Rises," is also a part of the "Superman" reboot. He and his writing partner, David S. Goyer, have penned the script for "Man of Steel." Nolan is also on board as a producer.
