Road rage may be to blame for Silver Lake shooting

SILVER LAKE, LOS ANGELES

The shooting happened in the 1400 block of Silver Lake Boulevard near Berkeley Avenue south of the reservoir shortly after 5 a.m. Authorities said the victim is on life support.

The victim, identified as David Vasquez, was driving two of his co-workers home when he had a confrontation with another driver and was shot. Vasquez's black pickup truck crashed into a parked white Mercedes-Benz after the shooting. His passengers were not injured.

The shooter was described as a Hispanic man in a four-door car. Authorities said he had a female passenger. After the shooting, they fled southbound on Silver Lake Boulevard. A description of the suspect's vehicle was not available.

Authorities do not believe the shooting was gang related.

It was unknown what prompted the shooting, but officials believe road rage could be to blame.

Friends described the victim as a hard worker. They said he had just finished his shift at work delivering pizzas.

"Super busy at one place, leaving at 11 to go work at the other place all the way to 4 in the morning, and then taking his co-workers home at 5 in the morning after work and something like this has to happen," said one man who did not want to be identified. "It is very tragic and sad."

"Really sweet, very positive, never complained about work," said Justine Hernandez, Vasquez's co-worker. "He had two jobs and was always high-energied. He would take us all home if we needed a ride, a genuinely good person."

"It's such a random, nonsensical act of violence towards someone who was not deserving at all," Hernandez added.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call the LAPD tip line at (877) LAPD-24-7 or (877) 527-3247.
