The Grammy-winning rock group Evanescence has been brought back to life with a new single, album and tour after being out of the media spotlight for about three years.
The song "What You Want" is set to premiere on MTV on Monday at 7:54 p.m. ET, a day before the track hits stores. The song is the first single to be released from Evanescence's self-titled third studio album, which is scheduled for release on October 11. (Check out a preview of the track below)
"It's definitely a new sound but it really is Evanescence in all the ways that we love Evanescence," lead singer Amy Lee, known for her powerful mezzo-soprano voice, said about the record in a video interview posted on the band's YouTube page. "It's the tightest we've ever sounded and it's the happiest we've ever been."
"What You Want" is a furious rock song that will likely please headbangers who watch Evanescence's performance at Brazil's Rock In Rio festival in October, which is one of the group's stops during its upcoming tour (see dates below). Other tracks featured on the album include "The Other Side," another fast-faced song, and "Lost In Paradise," which starts out soft and features Lee on piano.
Evanescence began recording new music last year and put the finishing touches on "Evanescence" in Nashville, Tennessee with the help of producer Nick Raskulinez. He has previously worked with rock groups such as Canadian progressive rock group Rush, shock rocker Marilyn Manson, rock bands Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains and the alternative metal group Deftones.
Evanescence, touted for Lee's high range vocals and often symphonic and gothic sound, has sold more than 17 million records worldwide and won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance in 2003, the year Evanescence's debut album, "Fallen," was released. The record contains breakout hits "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal." Both "Fallen" and the band's 2006 album "The Open Door" reached the No. 1 spot in several countries.
In 2010, Evanescence released the single "Together Again" as a digital track. The group last performed regularly in 2007. Also that year, Lee moved to New York and married Josh Hartzler, a therapist. The 29-year-old singer was previously linked to Shaun Morgan of the band "Seether," with whom she recorded the hit 2004 ballad "Broken."
"Gossip Girl" actress Taylor Momsen's band, The Pretty Reckless, is set to open for Evanescence at some concerts during its upcoming tour. Check out dates below. More are set to be announced in the coming weeks. You can get tickets on Evanescence's official website.
