Attack triggers SWAT standoff in Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif.

Police responded to a house at about 1 a.m. on the 100 block of Eloise Street near Walnut Street, where someone was reportedly attacked with a baseball bat.

Six people were taken out of the house and arrested, but one remained inside. At that point, the SWAT team was called in, and that last suspect was taken out of the house at about 6:15 a.m. and the standoff ended without incident.

It was unknown how those taken into custody were involved in the alleged beating. The motive was also unclear, but Pasadena Police Department Lt. Diego Torres said the situation appeared to be a fight among friends that got out of hand.

The victim was taken out of the house and expected to be OK. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in good and stable condition. Torres said the victim's wounds were not severe because there were no guns involved. He said the victim suffered injuries from blunt force.

Some homes in the area were evacuated, but everyone was allowed back home.
