Taylor Momsen, who has played Jenny Humphrey on "Gossip Girl" since its 2007 debut, says she has quit acting to focus on her music career.
The 18-year-old former child star is the lead singer of the alternative rock band The Pretty Reckless and had a diminished role on the CW series during its most recent fourth season.
"I quit acting, actually," Momsen told Elle magazine in a recent interview. "I quit 'Gossip Girl' and now tour and am in a band and that's pretty much all I want to do. Hopefully I'll be able to only do that for the rest of my life."
The Pretty Reckless' debut album, "Light Me Up," was released in August 2010 and contains tracks such as "Make Me Wanna Die." The album reached the top 10 on music charts in the United Kingdom but not in Momsen's native United States. Momsen's gothic concert fashion style is similar to that of her rebellious "Gossip Girl" character - both tend to heavy eyeliner and fishnet stockings.
The Pretty Reckless has been touring for the past year and recently performed at events such as Lollapalooza and Tokyo's Summer Sonic music festival.
"We're on tour forever!" Momsen told Elle. "We're actually starting a tour with Evanescence in the fall in the U.S., it goes all around the U.S. and then around Europe - the UK, Germany - so that's really exciting. That's for the next couple of months, so we're pretty much on the road until at least 2012. And then it will continue!"
It was announced in May that Momsen and Jessica Szohr would not return to "Gossip Girl" as series regulars when the drama series begins its fifth season on September 26.
Momsen was last year scolded by guest star Tim Gunn for alleged rude behavior on the set. She has not commented.
"Gossip Girl" mostly deals with the love lives of members of Manhattan's young "elite." Momsen's character is an outcast and stepsister of socialite Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively. Szohr, 26, portrays Brooklyn native Vanessa Abrams, who is often looked down upon by her female peers.
Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford and Penn Badgley are set to reprise their roles as van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald and Humphrey's brother Dan.
Prior to starring on "Gossip Girl," Momsen played Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 film "'How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and the president's daughter in the 2002 movie "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams". She has not filmed anything aside from "Gossip Girl" in recent years.
Szohr began her on-air career in 2003 and starred in small films and on shows such as "What I Like About You" and "That's So Raven." She played Laura on the series "What About Brian" in 2007 before she was cast in "Gossip Girl."
