OTRC: Burt Reynolds stays positive despite possible home foreclosure

Actor Burt Reynolds is remaining positive even though he may be close to losing his Florida home to foreclosure.

Merrill Lynch Credit Corp. has filed a lawsuit in Martin County against Reynolds, saying he hasn't made a mortgage payment for his home in about a year, so it wants to foreclose on the property, according to the Associated Press.

The bank is asking a judge to order the home sold to satisfy debts. The Mediterranean-style, 12,500-square-foot home is currently appraised by the county at $2.4 million, the wire service reports. Reynolds had tried to sell the home in 2009 for $8.9 million, but he had no buyers.

Reynolds, 75, told ABCNews.com that he is surprised by the lawsuit.

"I thought my career and my life could not be going better. To all of the people who have had such faith in me and stuck by me through thick and thin, thank you. I know it is not the end of the world," Reynolds was quoted as saying in a statement. "I will do like I've always done, keep my head up high and continue to move on down the road."

ABCNews.com cited a source as saying that the actor has always had financial problems.

"He runs up bills and ignores them," the source said. "He owes millions of dollars to people. It's a sad state of affairs."

This isn't the first time that Reynolds had financial issues. According to ABC News, the actor filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1996 after his a messy divorce from actress Loni Anderson and a failed venture into the restaurant business.

The 75-year-old was a big star in the 1970s and 1980s with multiple box office hits, including "Smokey and the Bandit," "Cannonball Run" and "Deliverance."

In recent years, Reynolds has appeared in several TV series, including "My Name is Earl," "Burn Notice" and "American Dad!"

He's currently filming a TV movie called "Reel Love," in which he will play the father of LeAnn Rimes' character. The film is set to air on CMT in September.
