Actress Geena Davis played a champion for women in "Thelma and Louise," now she's got a government job to fight for women in real life.

The State Senate has confirmed Davis to California's Commission on the Status of Women. The film star was appointed by another actor-turned public servant, former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The confirmation vote was not unanimous.

Republican Joel Anderson of San Diego voted against Davis, saying he didn't think she was qualified.
