OC man shot, injured by police after brandishing weapons

GARDEN GROVE, Calif.

Authorities received a call from the man at shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, saying he had just "committed suicide."

When responding officers arrived on the 13000 block of Ferndale Drive, the suspect took out a knife. He eventually heeded police commands to drop the knife, but he then took out a gun from his waistband and raised it toward the officers. That's when police shot the suspect. No officers were hurt in the incident.

The suspect was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

The Orange County District Attorney and the Garden Grove Police Department are investigating the incident.
