TV show director Reza Badiyi dies at 81

LOS ANGELES

Badiyi's family said he died peacefully Saturday night at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

The 81-year-old created some of the most well-known television sequences, including the opening sequences of "Hawaii Five-0" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

Badiyi is also credited with directing more episodes of U.S. television shows than anyone else.

Badiyi started his career as a cinematographer and worked with such giants as Sam Peckinpah and Robert Altman. Badiyi branched into television in 1963, and his family said he directed more than 430 episodes of TV series.
