Ryan Gosling might be auditioning for the role of a real-life superhero after breaking up a fight on the streets of New York City.

The actor broke up a scuffle in an intersection of New York's St. Mark's Place, where two men were fighting over a painting which one man had apparently stolen. While a few bystanders tried to resolve the situation, it was Gosling who got between the men and found a solution.

Freelance photographer Valerie Alvea got the fight on camera, in the video, bystanders can be heard describing the muscled actor as "the guy from that movie... 'The Notebook!'"

Alvea told E! News that Gosling resolved the argument further after pulling the men off of the busy street.

"He took them to the corner and asked them what was going on.," Alvea told E! News. "The gentleman was like 'He stole my painting'. So he [Gosling] gave the guy a $20 and asked if it was settled. He took the money out of his pocket and said 'If that's what you're fighting for, here you go.'"

Gosling's rep had no immediate comment on the report.

The 30-year-old actor recently appeared in the romantic comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" opposite Emma Stone. The film was a welcomed comedic relief from Gosling's dark characters in films like "Half Nelson" and "Blue Valentine."

He will next appear opposite George Clooney in the political drama, "The Ides of March," which is slated for release on October 7, 2011.
