When fans last saw Chad Michael Murray as Lucas Scott during season six of "One Tree Hill," the character was driving off into the sunset with Peyton (Hillarie Burton) and their son Sawyer. Now the actor is set to return to the show for its ninth and final season.
Murray will make a guest appearance as Lucas, who returns to Tree Hill after Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) "reaches out to him for help," according to a statement from The CW.
"The secrets out;) Im excited 2 say that 'Luke' will b reuniting with the amazing OTH cast, Producers & Crew 4 an ep! This is 4 u great fans," Murray wrote on his official Twitter page on Monday.
"One Tree Hill" received a 13-episode order for a ninth and final season in May. The cast of "One Tree Hill" is still filming and are expected to wrap their episode order by the holidays.
"One Tree Hill" premiered in September 2003 on The WB Network, which eventually merged with UPN to form The CW Network. The series, which is set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, follows the lives of two half-brothers, Lucas Scott (Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) and their relationships.
"I think everyone will be really happy. I thought they did such a great job, not knowing if we were finished at the ends of season 8," Sophia Bush, who is known for her role as Brooke on the series, told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith at the Do Something Awards in Los Angeles on August 14. "We created and crafted a finale that could be an end of show so I think that this is almost like a bonus."
She added, "We wrapped it up, we had the end and now we get 13 more weeks to tell a few more stories and show fans a little bit more of the things that they were really hoping to see and I think they're going to love it."
Bush was briefly married to Murray but filed for an annulment five months after the wedding.
