OTRC: Robert Downey Jr., wife Susan expecting baby

Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan welcomed their first child together, son Exton Elias Downey, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, the actor's spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com. Downey Jr. had revealed their baby's gender during an interview with host Jay Leno on NBC's 'Tonight Show' the previous December, saying that his wife was due to give birth in late February of 2012. When asked at the Los Angeles premiere of 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' in if he got in trouble for making the announcement, the actor told OnTheRedCarpet.com: 'No. Not really. She's very sweet ... If I told you the name, she'd lop off my head with a machete.' Susan Downey told OnTheRedCarpet.com that her husband's on-air announcement about their baby's gender was unplanned and that he told her about it moments after he filmed his interview. 'I can never really stay mad at him,' she said. 'He came sheepishly ... I was over at Warner Bros. (Studios), which is around the corner from 'Leno,' and he came through and he immediately admitted it. I was like, 'Really?'' 'It wasn't some preset gag, like they do sometimes - not at all,' she added. 'He said, 'I should have followed it up by saying, 'Well no, actually it's a girl' and let people be confused. I said, 'But you weren't trying to lie, you were actually trying to tell them what the situation was.' He's like, 'Yeah, good point.' Downey Jr. also has a son, Indio, who was born in September 1993. His mother is the actor's ex-wife Deborah Falconer. The two were married for nearly 12 years and divorced in 2004. Downey Jr. married his current wife a year later. The two met on the set of the movie 'Gothika' in 2003. She was one of the film's producers and has co-produced many of his films, including 'Iron Man 2,' 'Due Date' and both 'Sherlock Holmes' films.
