A man in Hollywood was helping two men who claimed they lost their car keys, when they tried to steal the car he was driving.

The incident happened at about 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 5800 block of Carlton Way, said police.

The victim, David Duncan, said while he looked for the keys in a minivan, the two guys got into his car and started to drive off.

Duncan said he jumped through the driver's side window and ended up on the lap of the guy trying to steal the car.

"I was still halfway out the window, hanging through the window in his lap, trying to reach for the brakes, trying to steer the car, trying to grab for the stick shift. Even when we hit, it was still in gear and he had his foot on the floor," described Duncan.

After the crash, a witness chased after the suspects but stopped when the men apparently pulled out a gun.

The two suspects got away.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call (877) LAPD-24-7 or (877) 527-3247.
