The cast of "Glee" have had their fare share of controversial photo shoots, but now Heather Morris has joined the ranks for a photo shoot some believe glamorizes violence against women.

Morris, who plays dim-witted cheerleader Brittany on the FOX musical comedy series, was photographed flying from a street sign, dancing, tied up with the electrical cord of an iron and sporting a brutal black eye.

"In no way were we promoting domestic violence," Shields told E! News. "We wanted to do a bruised-up Barbie shoot and that's exactly what we did!"

The prints, which are available on Shields' website, opened a debate with the photographer's fans who argued over whether the shoot was offensive or whether art has free creative license.

"I don't know if Tyler is aware but I'm quite sure there are plenty of women who have been abused by these kinds of household appliances and children as well being hit with electrical cords," says Rita Smith, executive director for the Denver-based National Coalition Against Domestic Violence told E! Online. "I'm not sure what the purpose is other than shock value."

Shields was also made headlines recently when he did a photo shoot featuring Lindsay Lohan covered in blood, wearing a bra and holding a gun to her head.

The 24-year-old got her start on the series when she was brought in to show the cast how to do the dance for "Single Ladies" after she performed as a backup dancer to Beyoncé on "Saturday Night Live" and the American Music Awards. She also competed on season two of "So You Think You Can Dance."

Morris made an immediate impression on the show's writers between takes and her small role was turned into a regular part.

Morris has yet to respond to the controversy. "Glee" returns to FOX on Tuesday, September 20.
