OTRC: Neil Diamond, 70, engaged to Katie McNeil

Neil Diamond, age 70 at the time, announced on Sept. 7, 2011 that he is engaged to Katie McNeil. She is his manager and who produced the 2009 documentary 'Neil Diamond: Hot August Night NYC,' as well as other films about various artists and bands. McNeil, 40, is set to become the singer's third wife. No wedding date has been announced. Diamond, known for the 1969 pop hit 'Sweet Caroline,' announced the news on his Twitter page in the form of song lyrics. 'Good news coming from sunny LA/ and you're the first I want to tell/ Katie & I just got engaged/ and I hope you wish us well,' he said. 'I'd like you to meet Katie,' he said, alongside a photo of his new fiance. 'I'm lovestruck. I took this photo in London last month.' Diamond and his first wife, Jayne Posner, have two daughters, Marjorie and Elyn. The singer and Posner divorced in 1969. That year, he wed his second wife, Marcia Murphey. The two had two sons, Jesse and Micah, and divorced in 1995. Diamond is also a grandfather. The identity of Neil Diamond's new fiance has been has revealed - it is Katie McNeil, his manager, and she is set to become his third wife.

The 70-year-old singer, known for the 1969 pop hit "Sweet Caroline," announced the news on his Twitter page on Wednesday, September 7, in the form of song lyrics.

"Good news coming from sunny LA/ and you're the first I want to tell/ Katie & I just got engaged/ and I hope you wish us well," he said.

"I'd like you to meet Katie," he said, alongside a photo of his new fiance. "I'm lovestruck. I took this photo in London last month."

McNeil, 40, is the singer's manager and also produced the 2009 documentary "Neil Diamond: Hot August Night NYC," Billboard reported. She also produced other movies about music artists and bands, such as the 2001 film "Motley Crue: Lewd Crued & Tattooed," and the 2007 flick "The Bangles Return to Bangleonia."

Diamond and his first wife, Jayne Posner, have two daughters, Marjorie and Elyn. The singer and Posner divorced in 1969. That year, he wed his second wife, Marcia Murphey. The two had two sons, Jesse and Micah, and divorced in 1995. Diamond is also a grandfather.

Also on Wednesday, it was announced that Diamond is set to receive the Kennedy Center Honors along with the likes of actress Meryl Streep, Broadway singer Barbara Cook, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and saxophonist Sonny Rollins for their contributions to American culture through the arts.

President Barack Obama will salute the artists and others will perform in their honor at a ceremony at the Kennedy Center on Dec. 4. The show will be broadcast on CBS on Dec. 27.

The Kennedy Center Honors began in 1978. Previous honorees include Warren Betty, Elton John, Steve Martin, Robert De Niro, Paul McCartney, Oprah Winfrey, Bob Dylan and Robert Redford.

In March, Diamond was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with shock rocker Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Darlene Love, Dr. John and pianist Leon Russell. At the ceremony, singer Paul Simon praised Diamond, who performed "Sweet Caroline" as well as his songs "Cherry, Cherry" and "I Am ... I Said."

Diamond, known for making mostly pop music, had said in December he does indeed see himself as a rock star and is happy to be among the "clowns in the circus" of rock and roll.
