Lady Gaga is going to ring in the New Year in Times Square.
It was announced the pop star will perform live on December 31 in her hometown of New York City for "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2012" on ABC. Gaga will perform just before the ball drops.
The night's festivities begin at 8 p.m. with a two-hour special called "New Year's Rockin' Eve: The 40th Anniversary Party" to mark the 40th anniversary of the annual New Year's Eve show which began with Dick Clark in 1971.
"Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2012" will air at 10 p.m. on ABC following the special and will be hosted by Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest in New York. Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie will host segments from Los Angeles.
"Lady Gaga is one of the most exciting and relevant artists of our time, and we're thrilled to have her join 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' this year in Times Square," Seacrest said in a statement. "I'm especially honored to share the stage with the legendary Dick Clark, who is celebrating his 40th year hosting the show, which he created and transformed into one of the most iconic American television programs."
Gaga made headlines on Wednesday when she revealed a more natural look on the cover of Harper's Bazzar for its October issue.
The singer, who is known for her unique style and theatrical shows, appears on the cover of the magazine as well as in the photo shoot images as -- what the magazine calls -- "basically barefaced."
However, Gaga tells the Harper's Bazaar she wouldn't exactly call the look natural. "I don't really view it as 'natural,'" she said. "I think that artifice is the new reality. It's more about just being honest and sincere to the core of what you do. Whether I'm wearing lots of make-up or no make-up, I'm always the same person inside."
"I try to not focus on what people expect from me," She added. "I think what has been lovely about my relationship with the public is that they expect something unexpected from me."
Speaking of unexpected, the singer recently opened the MTV Video Music Awards dressed as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone. Not only did Gaga perform her single "You and I" as Calderone, but she also remained in character for the duration of the show, even presenting an award to Britney Spears as Calderone. Some noticed the pop star's uncanny resemblance to a young Ralph Macchio, including the "Karate Kid" himself.
