Actor sentenced in Christmas Eve rape conviction

SANTA ANA, Calif.

Son was found guilty on August 25 of one felony count of torture.

According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, Son was charged Oct. 1, 2008, with numerous felony counts of sexual offenses, but it was determined that those charges could not be pursued at trial because the statute of limitations had run.

Son and co-defendant Santiago Lopez Gaitan was sentenced to 17 years and four months in state prison after pleading guilty to felony counts of kidnapping, sodomy by force, rape, forcible oral copulation and a sentencing enhancement for rape armed with a firearm.

Son and Gaitan were convicted of kidnapping a Jane Doe on Dec. 24, 1990, at gunpoint outside her residence.

Jane Doe was pistol-whipped and repeatedly raped in a car. The suspects repeatedly threatened her life.

The victim was left naked on the street.

Son, who was serving time in the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange County in 2008, gave DNA as a condition of his original plea, according to the OCDA. That sample was matched to the 1990 rape.

Huntingto Beach Police detectives arrested Son and he was charged with the rape.

Son was an actor known for his role as henchman "Random Task" in the 1997 movie "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," according to the OCDA.
