Vanessa Hudgens is reportedly set to play an escaped victim of an Alaska serial killer and rapist, portrayed by John Cusack, in a new film called "Frozen Ground."
The movie is based on the true story of Robert C. Hansen, an Anchorage man nicknamed "The Butcher Baker." Nicolas Cage will play a State Trooper who investigates the case and finds Hudgens' character, the sole teenage victim who escaped, according to Deadline.com, which carried the report.
Hudgens has not commented. The 22-year-old is best known for her role in Disney's "High School Musical" films, which star her ex-boyfriend Zac Efron. She showcased a more mature image with her role as a prostitute and asylum patient in the sci-fi thriller "Sucker Punch," which was released earlier this year. (see photos from the movie)
In 1984, the real Hansen was sentenced to 461 years in prison for killing 17 women - mostly prostitutes and strippers. He had also admitted to raping another 30 over the course of 10 years. Hansen had owned a bakery and had a family, which was unaware of his double life.
Cusack, 45, is known mostly for playing "good guy" roles, such as Lloyd Dobler in the 1989 romantic teen comedy "Say Anything" and Rob Gordon in the 1996 film "High Fidelity." He also played an assassin in the 1997 movie "Grosse Point Blank" and starred with Cage in the action film "Con Air." Cusack plays Edgar Allen Poe in the 2012 movie "The Raven."
Hudgens recently filmed the 2012 film "Gimme Shelter," which sees her playing a troubled, pregnant teenager. The actress is a spokesmodel for Candie's apparel (see photos) and for the Candie's Foundation, a non-profit group that aims to "educate America's youth about the devastating consequences of teenage pregnancy."
Hudgens shocked fans in July when she was pictured with her character's short, chopped hair. She said in an interview with the television show "Access Hollywood" that she cut her own locks while filming a scene for the film.
"I grabbed the scissors and started cutting my actual hair and then my director decided that he was going to grab the scissors, he grabs a chunk of my hair and just chops it," she said.
