Covina high school holds Sept. 11 ceremony

COVINA, Calif.

At Fairvalley High School in Covina a ceremony was held with students, local police officers and firefighters Monday morning.

A special flag was raised and then lowered to half-staff. The flag holds special meaning to the Fairvalley teacher who brought it back from New York City.

"It is an American flag with names of the victims from 9/11, who died in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania," said history teacher Jennifer Touhey. "The man who created flag, John McAlavey, also created a flag of heroes listing all the firefighters and police officers who died while saving others."

In all, 343 firefighters and paramedics were killed on Sept. 11, 2001.
