Smoking orangutan in Malaysia forced to kick habit

LOS ANGELES

Government authorities seized the adult ape named Shirley from a Malaysian zoo last week.

They said she was living in poor conditions and will get no more cigarettes, because smoking is not normal behavior for orangutans.

Wildlife officials said Shirley isn't addicted. But an activist group claims the orangutan seemed to have severe mood swings, looked drowsy and appeared agitated without a cigarette.
