Scientists say movie 'Contagion' could happen

LOS ANGELES

The head of the Centers for Disease Control said a global epidemic driven by a new virus is plausible in real life.

Dr. Thomas Frieden said a virus jumping from animals to humans is not fictional at all. Also, in the age of jet travel, a disease could spread globally in just a few days.

However, other experts said it's extremely unlikely the virus would be as deadly and contagious as the one portrayed in the movie.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
