Gerard Butler stepped out at the Toronto International Film Festival last week in a sleek suit and a slimmer look.
The actor, who once showed of a bulkier frame in the film "300," explained the new look was due to a change in his workout routine in preparation for a film.
"I'm prepping for a surf movie," the 41-year-old told People magazine on Tuesday. "So I'm surfing every day for 'Mavericks.'"
His upcoming role also explains why he's been seen with blond hair recently. In the movie, Butler plays Rick "Frosty" Hesson, the mentor to surfer Jay Moriarty. Moriarty was a surf champion who died at 21 in 2001.The actor, who is 6 feet 2 inches, once weighed 197 pounds when he did "300."

For his new work out the actor told Us Weekly he's "just doing a lot of cardio and extremely watching what I eat. I stopped lifting big weights and I'm doing yoga."
"If I wear a long shirt, everyone says, 'Oh my, God! He lost so much weight.' But this is how I look," he added. "I just used to be a lot bigger. But now I'm surfing. I'm doing a surf movie so I have to slim down. I don't know... maybe I'm sick or something!"
Butler's next movie is the action biopic "Machine Gun Preacher" due out on September 23. Watch the trailer for the film below.
