It's been a rough week for several members of "Real Housewives of New York," but former cast member Bethenny Frankel had the most harrowing experience after getting lost at sea.

"Scariest trip ever.did sailing trip w jason & my shrink.was sposed to be 8 hrs.was 24.we hit wave,GPS broke.coast guard had to guide us back," Frankel wrote on Twitter on September 17, following her rescue.

Frankel was with her husband and the crew of her current Bravo series, "Bethenny Ever After," when their sailboat got lost off the coast of Maine. Frankel posted a photo of her with the crew after they landed in Nantucket (pictured above).

"I was on a sailboat on Saturday that was supposed to be eight hours and it ended up being 20 because were lost at sea," Frankel told E! News in the first interview since the experience. "The captain had to call the Coast Guard and we were hit by a big wave. It was very scary. It was traumatic. Absolutely traumatic."

"We were in the middle of the deep sea with no land or anybody near us," she continued. "The captain had never, in 30 years, called the Coast Guard."

Frankel married her husband Jason Hoppy in March 2010. The couple welcomed their daughter Bryn Casey Hoppy in May 2010. The reality star said she was thinking of her daughter when she realized the situation was dire.

"It was so scary," Frankel continued. "I was thinking, Oh, my God, Bryn! I'm not going to be there at six o'clock in the morning when she wakes up and she's going to wonder where Mommy is and gosh, if something were to happen to me, what would happen to her. I was having horrendous thoughts."

Prior to starring on her own reality series, Frankel was part of "The Real Housewives of New York" cast for three seasons. She left shortly before the birth of her daughter Bryn and marriage to husband Jason Hoppy but after ending her friendship with cast member Jill Zarin.

Zarin was among the four cast-members who were not invited back to the Bravo series, it was announced on September 18. Kelly Bensimon, Cindy Barshop and Alex McCord are also out, the network confirmed.

Frankel is a New York Times best-selling author with diet and self-help books like "A Place of Yes" and the Skinnygirl chef recently signed a three-book fiction deal with Touchstone Fireside and is set to release her first fiction book called "Skinny Dipping" next spring.

The reality star and best-selling author's E! True Hollywood story premieres on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET.
