OTRC: Chaz Bono talks 'Dancing With The Stars' debut and new nickname

Chaz Bono talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com after the premiere of 'Dancing With The Stars' on September 19, 2011.

Chaz Bono has been called a lot of things in the past few weeks, but "Dancing With The Stars" head judge's nickname "Razzmatazz Jazz" might be the best moniker yet.

"You know, there are worse things to be called by Len," Bono told OnTheRedCarpet.com special correspondent George Pennacchio of KABC Television after the season premiere. "So I'm actually pretty happy about that!"

Bono impressed the judges with his first dance, a spirited Cha Cha Cha, which earned the LGBT activist and his partner 17 out of 30 points from the judges. Though the score landed the pair in seventh place, the judges had nothing but kind words.

"I gave tonight all I have tonight, maybe by next week I'll have more, but I definitely put all I have into tonight's performance," Bono, who is the only child of musicians Sonny Bono and Cher, continued. "It was great, the live audience was amazing. In a way, I was thinking dance stuff while it went on, so I was just thinking ahead and kind of just tuned out everything but Lacey and me."

Schwimmer recently Tweeted about how well the two were working together and was "thrilled" to have Bono, who is the first transgender contestant to compete on the show, as a partner. Bono was born Chastity Bono but underwent a sex change in 2009.

During a recent rehearsal interview, Schwimmer said her partner had already lost ten pounds, before the 13th season had even begun. "[My body] changes and it kind of redistributes as well," Bono confirmed to OnTheRedCarpet.com.

Cher recently asked fans to defend her son against "haters" who didn't agree with Bono participating on the popular competition series.

"Lovelies! Chaz is Being Viciously Attacked on Blogs & Message boards about being on 'DWTS'! This is Still America right ? It took guts 2 do it," Cher wrote on Twitter Wednesday. "Can u guys check out sites & give him your support? BTW ... Mothers don't stop Getting angry with stupid bigots who [expletive] with their children," she said in another Tweet.

Bono has seen fans come out to support him in his "Dancing With The Stars" quest, rallying for him after he received rude comments.

"I've gotten just a tremendous amount of support, it's great," Bono told OnTheRedCarpet.com.

"Especially with some of the stuff we got early on when we were just starting the season," Schwimmer agreed. "We got some seriously bad stuff said about him, about me, about just the whole situation and it's really cool to see people turning around and just supporting and trying to tell people, it is okay, it's positive - you just have to get over it!"
