Woman's body found in Van Nuys alley

VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES

Authorities say they have very little information about the homicide.

Police say the body was in plain view next to a Dumpster in the 14500 block of Victory Boulevard at about 4 a.m. Authorities said the victim, a Hispanic woman in her 30s, was fatally stabbed with a sharp object.

The victim was declared dead at the scene. She was not identified.

LAPD officers believe the woman was murdered either late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. There is a surveillance camera pointing down the alley that might have helped, but it was not working.

LAPD Det. Robert Bub said it was a transient who first spotted the victim's body in the street and attempted to revive her. When he was unable, he called 911.

"There's no indication that she was put here after death," Bub said. She did not appear to be transient, Bub said.

There are several businesses in the area, but they were all closed at the time when police believe the crime happened.

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to call the LAPD at (877) LAPD-24-7.

Correction: In an earlier version of the story, it was reported the victim had gunshot wounds, but police now say she was a stabbing victim.
