Human remains found in Palmdale desert

PALMDALE, Calif.

The sheriff's department and the county coroner were at the location to investigate.

A jogger was reportedly jogging in the remote area of Palmdale desert Tuesday at around 11 a.m.

The area is largely composed of dirt roads and sand dunes. Someone jogged by, saw what was thought to be human remains behind a ravine and called the sheriff's department.

Investigators were in the area by hand trying to dig up all of the remains and figure out what they are.

Officials expected investigators to be on scene through the night

It was not clear if the remains belong to one person, of if there was more than one body. The gender of any remains was unclear. The remains were very decomposed.

The county coroner will be tasked with identifying and determining the cause of death.
