Report: LA County sheriffs shooting more unarmed suspects

LOS ANGELES

A report by the Police Assessment Resource Center says in 61 percent of cases reported, the suspects were unarmed.

Most of the incidents were "state of mind shootings," in which deputies opened fire on suspects who appeared to be holding or reaching for a weapon.

Researchers said the majority of suspects were African-American or Latino, but found no evidence of bias.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department said it's reviewing the data.
