Police responded to the shooting at 49th Street and Grand Avenue just after 6:30 a.m. A man was declared dead at the scene, and a woman was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to her temple.
Authorities say multiple rounds were fired into the back of a white Crown Victoria.
"Scared me frighten," said Ramona Gibson of South Los Angeles.
Neighbors say they are tired of seeing this type of violence in their neighborhood.
"I just hate waking up, to actually being around to see this stuff," said Lorenzo Murphy of Los Angeles.
Police have very little information to work with. The suspect was believed to have fled the scene on foot, and police do not believe the shooting was gang related.
Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD Newton Division at (323) 845-6556.
