Scientists are developing a stay-sober pill they say could stop a person from feeling the effects of alcohol.

The pill shuts off the immune response of some cells in the brain, and it produced a remarkable effect in mice studies.

Animals with the cells turned off could still balance and had good reflexes, even after given enough alcohol to get drunk.

The study could help explain why some drinkers start slurring their words or losing inhibitions after one glass of wine, while others can drink much more.

The report is in the British Journal of Pharmacology.
