California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill that creates new penalties for selling synthetic cannabis.

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill that creates new penalties for selling synthetic cannabis.

Under the new law, anyone caught selling it may be fined $1,000 and face up to six months in jail.

It has been sold in convenience stores, tobacco shops and other outlets.

Some say synthetic marijuana has similar effects to marijuana.
