Counselors on hand after South LA cheerleader's death

SOUTH LOS ANGELES

Angela Gettis, 16, collapsed Friday night while cheering on the George Washington Preparatory High School football team.

A news conference was also planned for later on Monday.

School leaders say Gettis, a sophomore, went into cardiac arrest in the final moments of the big game against rival Fremont High School. She died three hours later at the hospital.

The girl's family said she had no known medical problems.

Gettis was a member of the Junior Reserved Officers Training Corps and had planned on going to college and majoring in forensic science.
