'Psychic' scares girl into stealing jewelry from family

PALMDALE, Calif.

Jackeline Lopez allegedly held psychic readings in her garage. Authorities said Lopez used the readings to scare the girl into thinking she was cursed and that bad things would happen to her.

Lopez then allegedly told the victim she could lift the curse in exchange for money.

The victim ended up stealing more than $10,000 in jewelry from her own parents to get the curse lifted.

Lopez routinely would orchestrate a ritual in which the victim would place the stolen jewelry in a caldron and attempt to remove the curse. But each time Lopez would tell the girl that it wasn't enough.

This continued until the girl's parents noticed the missing jewelry and confronted her about it.

Lopez was arrested last month on charges of extortion, but authorities are asking for the public's help to identify a man suspected of selling the jewelry.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
