OTRC: Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell are officially married

Former Beatle Paul McCartney and American heiress Nancy Shevell officially tied the knot on Sunday, October 9, at a central London town hall, according to The Associated Press. The couple was last seen heading to a gala reception at McCartney's home.

Shevell, 51, wore an above-the-knee ivory dress designed by McCartney's daughter Stella. She also wore a flower in her hair. Paul McCartney, 69, wore a navy blue suit also designed by his daughter.

The couple wed at Old Marylebone Hall, where McCartney married his first wife, Linda Eastman, in 1969. McCartney's 7-year-old daughter Beatrice was a flower girl at the ceremony, according to People magazine.

Drummer Ringo Starr, the only other surviving member of the Beatles, attended the ceremony along with Barbara Walters, who is Shevell's cousin. The couple wed on what would have been the late Beatle John Lennon's 71st birthday. Lennon was murdered in 1980 after being shot by Mark David Chapman.

The couple had a non-denominational ceremony, according to the magazine, and McCartney gave Shevell a Neil Lane diamond eternity band with 5-carats of square cut diamonds set in platinum.

McCartney and Shevell, a 51-year-old New York businesswoman, have been together since 2007 and announced their engagement in May.

The two recently gave notice of their intention to wed at the Westminster Register Office, also known as Old Marylebone Town Hall, UK news outlets reported. Shevell is set to become the singer's third bride.

The couple can wed at the venue, located near Baker's Street and Regent's Park in London, as early as 16 days after submitting the documents but must marry there within a year or they must post a fresh notice.

McCartney's wedding to first wife Linda Eastman took place at Old Marylebone Town Hall in 1969. She died at age 56 in 1998 after battling breast cancer. The couple had three children - fashion designer Stella McCartney, 40, Mary, 42, James, 34. Eastman also has a 48-year-old daughter, Heather, from a previous relationship.

"I'm delighted that Paul and Nancy have chosen Marylebone Town Hall for their special day," BBC News quoted Superintendent Registrar Alison Cathcart of the Westminster Register Office as saying. "I am honored to be conducting the ceremony and will get to see the look of joy on both their faces when I declare them husband and wife."

Others who have wed at Old Marylebone Town Hall include former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher and actress Patsy Kensit, Hollywood power couple Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas and McCartney's daughter Mary. The venue was also the site of the 1981 wedding of former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach, a Bond Girl who starred in the 1977 film "The Spy Who Loved Me."

This will mark Shevell's second marriage. She was married for more than 20 years to lawyer Bruce Blakeman, who was a candidate in the 2010 U.S. Senate special election in New York.

The Daily Mail quoted Shevell as saying that her wedding to McCartney will be a "small family affair.".

McCartney's 2002 wedding to his second wife, Heather Mills, at Castle Leslie in Ireland cost about $2.3 million, the newspaper said. The two divorced in 2008. They have a 7-year-old daughter, Beatrice.
