OTRC: George Clooney talks 'fun part' about making 'Ides of March'

George Clooney says directing "The Ides of March," a politically-charged film that sees him star opposite fellow heartthrob Ryan Gosling, was the "fun part."

Clooney, 50, plays Mike Morris, the fictional Governor of Pennsylvania who is a Democratic presidential candidate whose chances slowly seem to slip away as his campaign manager Stephen Meyers, played by Gosling, starts becoming embroiled in a string of dirty politics. The film also stars Evan Rachel Wood as Morris' intern.

"The Ides of March," which was released on Friday, October 7, is the fourth movie Clooney has directed, following the 2008 film "Leatherheads." The 50-year-old actor is known more for his leading acting roles in films such "Syriana," which earned him an Oscar, and the 2010 drama "Up In The Air," which garnered him his fourth Academy Award nomination.

When Clooney was asked about his preferences when it comes to acting versus directing, he referred to directing as the "fun part."

"Ryan's starring in it, thank God, because it was a lot of work for me," Clooney joked to OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith. "The directing part is the fun part - it's really fun working with those actors."

"It was based on a play, and there are long scenes in the movie which often doesn't happen in films anymore, they're usually very quick scenes," the actor added. "So we had a chance to spend a lot of time together - they're the best actors in the business, from the onset, every single one of them. They're so good that I didn't really have to do much - just say 'Action' and 'Cut.'"

Clooney has been in the media lately for his high-profile split from girlfriend Elisabetta Canallis, who was the second to be eliminated from "Dancing with the Stars" current 13th season 13. More recently the actor has been seen stepping out with former WWE star Stacy Keibler, who has since been declared his girlfriend.
