Chaz Bono wowed judges and brought his mother Cher to tears during his Paso Doble performance on Monday night's "Dancing With The Stars."
"She was genuinely proud and it was great, it was so special," Bono told OnTheRedCarpet.com of having his mother in the audience. "I mean, my whole family was there and they were all, you know, so excited, so proud, so rooting for me. Last week was a hard week for me and I felt like this week, for us, we came back real strong."
The stars were taxed with the challenge of dancing to songs from film soundtracks in week four and Bono and his partner Lacey Schwimmer (with some help from guest motivator Richard Simmons) danced to the song "Gonna Fly Now" from the film "Rocky," and received 21 out of 30 points from the judges, as well as a few tears from Carrie Ann Inaba.
"In the true spirit of 'Rocky,' no matter how many knocks you take, you keep coming back," head judge Bruno Tonioli told Bono. "You keep fighting and you keep getting stronger."
It didn't hurt that Bono's mom was in the audience, cheering him on and her presence didn't go unnoticed.
"I saw her right after the show, briefly and she just said how proud she was and how nervous she was, how nervous she was sitting there watching it," Bono continued. "And I know when she watches it at home, she's nervous, too, but she's just like, 'It's so nerve-wracking being here' and then said, 'I don't really understand the judging here and we said, 'Neither do we.'"
"OMG! I WAS CRYING ! WASNT EXPECTING 2 B SO NERVOUS ! BROKE MY BRACELET CLAPPING ! IM SO PROUD !! CHAZ WAS GREAT!" Cher wrote on Twitter following the performance.
Cher is not the first famous family member to grace the ballroom. Check out other celebs who have sat in the audience for their famous friends and family members on "Dancing With The Stars" here.
Chaz Bono was born Chastity Bono, daughter of Sonny Bono and fellow singer Cher. Chaz Bono later underwent hormonal treatments to change his gender. He had dedicated his dance on Monday to his father, who died in a skiing accident in 1998.
Prior to the October 4 elimination episode, Cher told her followers on Twitter that she hoped her son made it through to the next round on the dancing competition series so that she could appear in the audience to cheer him on for his next dance. Last week Bono did a dance in memory of his father and despite receiving the lowest score of the night, made it through to the next round.
