Police said two people were in a vehicle near Centinela Avenue and Washington Place around 2:30 a.m. when the officer pulled them over outside the restaurant for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Authorities said one person threatened the officer with a knife.
The officer shot that man in the stomach. He was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
The other person in the car was taken into custody.
